Joseph Njuguna
MD and CEO
Profile | Joseph Njuguna
Joseph Njuguna is the Managing Director and CEO of Rafiki Microfinance Bank appointed in October 2021 with a mandate to provide effective strategic leadership and direction of the bank to achieve the bank’s growth and profitability agenda. He is responsible for the overall strategic and operational performance of the bank. He is a seasoned career banker with over 25 years of extensive experience in the financial services sector, spanning various senior executive roles in banking sector in Kenya.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Joseph served as the Chief Finance Officer at Consolidated Bank of Kenya where he was responsible for the overall strategic planning, financial management, risk management, stakeholder management- incuding dealing with regulators such as CBK, CMA and NSE and overall regulatory and tax planning and compliance. He has previously worked with HFC group the leading mortgage lender in East Africa and CFC Stanbic in the areas of audit and risk management.
Education and Qualifications
Joseph is an accomplished banking and finance professional and holds the following qualifications
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic management from the University of Nairobi
- Bachelor of Commerce – Bcom from the University of Nairobi
- Certified Public Accountant CPA(K) and member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya- ICPAK
- Senior Managers Leadership Development Program from Strathmore Business School.

Chief Finance Officer

Paul Karanja is the Chief Finance Officer of Rafiki Microfinance Bank and Executive Director of Rafiki Microfinance Bancassurance Intermediary. With over 20 years of experience in the banking and microfinance sector, he has led key initiatives in financial management, corporate strategy, treasury, regulatory reporting and operational efficiency.
As a member of the executive management, he has provided strategic leadership and strengthening governance in the Bank. His career includes senior finance roles at Chase Bank and Equity Bank, where he drove major financial operations and systems transformation.
He is a Certified Public Accountant (K), a member of ICPAK and the Institute of Directors (Kenya), and holds a BSc in Mathematics.
Anthony Mloo
Acting Head Of Credit

Terry Micheni
Senior Manager Human Capital & Organizational Development.

As the Senior Manager- Human Capital and Organization Development at Rafiki Microfinance Bank, CHRP-K Terry Micheni provides strategic leadership in people management, culture transformation, and organizational effectiveness. driving initiatives in talent management, leadership capability building, workforce planning, employee experience, organizational design, and change management to accelerate sustainable growth and operational excellence. With extensive experience in HR strategy, change management, and organizational development in multi- industry including the financial sector, Chrp-K Terry has led transformative projects that include redesign of core people processes and the implementation of a bank-wide performance and capability framework..
Ms. Micheni is committed to creating a culture where people clearly understand why we do what we do, how their individual contributions shape the performance and direction of the business, and how our work and actions connect to the broader environment we operate in. She has led transformative initiatives including Rafiki’s brand and communications overhaul, the launch of a structured Voice-of-the-Customer and NPS framework, and high-performing marketing campaigns that have strengthened customer engagement across the Bank’s nationwide footprint. With over 12 years of experience across financial services, automotive, and mobility sectors, Maureen is recognized for shaping customer-obsessed cultures and executing integrated marketing strategies that enhance organizational performance. She is passionate about financial inclusion, digital innovation, and driving data-led decision-making to position Rafiki as a modern, customer-first institution.
David Kiiru
Head of Internal Audit

David is the Head of Internal Audit at Rafiki Microfinance Bank, responsible for handling Audit and Assurance Services. With over 15 years of experience in Audit and Assurance Services, they have a strong track record in the identification and value promotion of key Strategic and Operations business processes. David has previously worked in financial services institutions and Audit firms. David is passionate about Audit, Investigations and Corporate Governance matters. David holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from the University of Nairobi.
Nicholas Masavu
Senior Manager Risk & Compliance.

Nicholas Masavu is a seasoned Risk and Compliance Specialist with over a decade of experience in financial risk management, regulatory compliance, and anti-money laundering (AML). As an AML Reporting Officer, he is committed to strengthening compliance frameworks and mitigating operational risks. His expertise extends to cybersecurity and data analytics, where he leverages advanced analytics to enhance risk assessment and fraud detection.
Currently serving as a Risk and Compliance Manager at Rafiki Microfinance Bank, Nicholas has built a strong track record in safeguarding financial institutions against regulatory and operational risks. He has previously held key roles at Jones Lang LaSalle under the Standard Chartered Bank Account, Safaricom Sacco, Cititrust Holding Group, and KWFT Bank, where he played a pivotal role in risk management, financial compliance, and governance.
He holds an MSc in Development Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from KCA University. His professional certifications include Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, Kenya Accounting Technician Certificate, Cybersecurity Certification from CWWTA Africa, and Data Analytics from ALX under the Mastercard Foundation.
Passionate about leveraging technology, data-driven insights, ESG- climate change risks and regulatory best practices, he is dedicated to building resilient financial ecosystems through innovation, integrity, and compliance.
Stella Wavinya
Legal Manager & Corporate Services.

Stella Mbuli is the Legal Manager at Rafiki Microfinance Bank, a position she has held since 2023. She steers the legal strategy for the bank, driving initiatives in the legal areas to accelerate growth and operational excellence. With over fifteen years of extensive experience, she is a seasoned advocate who has a good track record in the dispensation of legal services. A graduate of the University of Nairobi's School of Law (LL.B) and a holder of a postgraduate Diploma from Kenya School of Law, she is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
